Have you ever dreamt about wearing pajamas to work or sweatpants to a fancy dinner but just can’t bring yourself to do it? Last year, I wore cotton joggers to work and told myself it was ‘athleisure’ and even then, I still felt like I was getting questionable stares in the office. I am however, a firm believer that comfort should never be compromised. So finding items in my wardrobe that strike a balance of comfort and style is always a win/win.

When I laid my eyes on the sister duo brand Kim+Ono’s robes based out of San Francisco’s Chinatown, I immediately started brainstorming different ways I could wear my robe outside of the home. Yes, a robe in public — you heard me right! And let me tell you, these are not your ordinary fleece bathrobes that you want to keep stowed away in your bathroom. Kim+Ono specializes in high-quality, handcrafted silk and charmeuse print kimonos. Each of their kimonos features an original print, first sketched by hand, saturated in watercolors with a paintbrush.

Their kimono’s are meant to be a staple all while making a statement. They are lightweight and breathe really well, making them versatile pieces that you can wear all year long — pairing nicely over jeans, leggings, dresses, shorts, skirts. I opted for the long, silk Peacock Feather Kimono (it also comes in other colors) because of its bold print and saturated colors — I like the fact their longer kimonos give off the appearance of a sophisticated duster. You can style it with the accompanying silk belt or wear it open. Kim+Ono offers a variety of robes on their website and storefront ranging in various designs, colors and lengths (short or long) depending on your preference!

The fact their robes are so stylish that you can transform what would otherwise be at-home loungewear into a an everyday wardrobe staple, is truly an accomplishment in itself. If you catch me wearing this kimono nonstop from now until summer…can you even blame me?
