Don't let this smile fool you, the cold is coming and so is the "oh, it's pitch black at 5pm" darkness. I love fall but once it starts to get dark, cold and rainy (almost) every single day - it's really rough for me. So for the next few weeks where we have a little bit of sunshine and sunlight, I'm embracing it.

Aside from planning my next vacation to somewhere warm with palm trees in sight, I'm focused on bringing out the layers this fall as I revamp my wardrobe for all things comfortable and stylish. I'm a girl who loves her print and color! But sometimes, you just have to simplify. I'm showcasing one of my favorite ways to layer up in monochrome this fall for the days where you can still show off a little bit of skin but layer up when you're feeling chilly.

One of my staples for fall is the turtleneck. I think I say this every year but I really can't seem to get enough of them! I scored this grey, Erika Sweater Top from Maude for less than $50 (you can still shop this top now!) It is meant to fit snuggly, but, if you like your turtlenecks a little larger - I'd recommend sizing up. I love this turtleneck because it gives me just the amount of coverage I need but the fabric isn't bulky - a lot of the turtlenecks I own are fabulous for freezing cold winter days but are a bit too much for days when I'm in a stuffy office or on the go. I tucked this turtleneck into my white front zip-up skirt from Zara from year's past. This skirt is by far the most versatile one I own - I wear it all year round either bare legged or with tights. It can be easily dressed up or down and the front zipper detailing and pockets are my favorite part!

Now, let's talk shoes. These Chinese Laundry boots were also a purchase from Maude last year and they are going on year two and are just as efficient for the fall and winter months! I love the amount of heel this boot has and how they go higher past the ankle. They are so fun to wear over jeans, leather leggings or paired like this, with a skirt.

It wouldn't be fall without some accessories to help with the layering. This Nordstrom scarf is my favorite! I love the larger plaid print in neutral tones - camel, black, grey and cream really allow me to mix and match this scarf with a variety of outfits. It's a great layering piece and keeps me so warm and can easily be taken off at a moment's notice. To top off my look, I'm using my Nordstrom black tote bag. I just love the gold detailing on the zippers and that this tote can be worn as a crossbody or just carried around by its handles. It's a bag I carry all of my must-haves in when I'm at work or on the go and goes with virtually any outfit I can come up with!

This outfit is one I have worn to work, on the weekends and for date night. It's comfortable, casual and fully embraces the monochrome palette of fall. What is your favorite way to rock the fall neutrals this year?
