Back to fall basics: Leather and a basic tee

I can't believe it's already almost September! It means we are that much closer to fall...and I can't wait! As much as I've enjoyed the warm weather the last few months I've been enjoying the hint of crisp fall in the air the last few days. Fall fashion is my favorite because it's all about layering and showing off the darker/moodier colors. The beauty of fall fashion is that you can start integrating your favorite pieces into your go-to summer outfits earlier than you'd expect. It all comes down to pairing the right items of clothing together as you are in this "transitional" phase of the seasons.

In my latest styled series, I'll be sharing my favorite back to fall basics in outfits that are transitional and appropriate for the last of the summer days that are starting to feel and look more like fall.

In this first look of the series, my outfit revolves around two favorite staples: leather and a basic cotton t-shirt. While leather can be hard to integrate into summer outfits when it's hot outside, I'm showing off my favorite fall find: the leather skirt. The beauty of this leather skirt is how lightweight it is, so you can stay cool when wearing it on summer days. I found mine at H&M. I fell in love with the light brown color of the skirt because it just screams fall to me. This skirt is perfect for multiple seasons because it goes with everything. In the fall, I plan on pairing it with a chunky sweater and in the winter I plan on rocking it with a turtleneck and boots. For the summer time, a cotton t-shirt is magic with this skirt.

I am pairing my skirt with my new sassy t-shirt by Sookie + Co.a Seattle-based clothing line featuring the cutest and most relatable sayings on their cotton tees. When I received this Chic Happens top from the clothing launch party last month I couldn't wait to incorporate it into my outfits. Tucking my cotton shirt into my leather skirt is simple and yet so stylish.

To dress things up a bit, it's all about accessorizing. I am wearing my Forever21 statement necklace to add some sparkle to my look -- a statement necklace always makes a basic t-shirt look so flattering, it's a must

Because it's still summer, you best believe I'm not leaving my house without my sunnies. I'm wearing my Urban Outfitters aviators in this look because I love the way they frame my face and they are super lightweight! This outfit can instantly be transformed into work appropriate or date night chic by throwing on a pair of heels -- I went with my studded black Halogen heels from Nordstrom to keep my look feminine and sassy.

While two simple fall staples like cotton and leather are great standalone pieces for fall fashion, when combined together with the right accessories they are transformed into an on-trend look that is suitable for those end of summer and almost fall days.
